The cell grows in size, synthesizes proteins, and performs its normal functions. It accumulates the necessary resources, such as energy and raw materials, for the upcoming DNA replication in the S phase. This phase is also a checkpoint where the cell assesses its readiness for DNA replication. If conditions are favorable and the cell is healthy, it proceeds to the S phase.
